Perinatal Mental Health

Perinatal Mental Health Services

Mental illness after childbirth is relatively common, Around 10-15% of women suffer depression and anxiety during pregnancy or after childbirth. Most women recover with the help of support from the community services mentioned below and traditional NHS health professionals such as:

  • Midwife services
  • Health visitor team
  • General Practionners (GP)

Some women, unfortunately will experience significant mental illness that require additional input from our perinatal mental health specialists via the hospital or community settings. This requires an initial assessment and referral from one of our community NHS health professionals as listed above.
